Kent and Medway Medical School are looking for a Finance Officer to join their busy team. You will need financial/accounting knowledge and experience to be able to advise staff on day-to-day financial matters and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and build positive working relationships with a wide range of people.

The successful candidate will oversee the financial administration and associated processes and procedures within the Division including key financial procedures such as: month/year-end; expenses claims; virements and journals; the monitoring and reconciliation of all divisional budgets; preparing financial reports and data required for high-level budget management and analysis; processing HPL claims and preparing irregular worker contracts.

As a Finance Officer you will:

Provide operational management support to the Finance & Resources Manager, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with University and other financial regulations
Provide professional financial guidance and advice to staff and students within the Division with the operational running of budgets and processes
Monitor income and expenditure against all divisional budgets ensuring all activity is appropriately coded and budgets are not exceeded
Reconcile all divisional pay budgets to monitor under- or over-spends, coding errors, payment errors as well as processing pay claims for timesheet staff
Undertake detailed analysis of income and expenditure, producing reports and financial forecasts to inform the Senior Management Team's decision-making
Communicate and translate financial information to non-finance individual
To be successful in this role you will have/be:

GCSE English and Maths (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent
Foundation level financial qualification (e.g. AAT) actively studying towards full qualification, or willingness to undertake; or equivalent
Previous experience in a similar finance/accounting role implementing financial procedures in a busy environment
Good IT skills in particular MS Office packages with experience of using spreadsheets and databases on a regular basis
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) opened to its first cohort of 108 pioneer students in September 2020. The vision for KMMS is to create a new medical school for Kent and Medway that becomes a beacon for first-class medical education and research. The School will attract the most talented aspiring doctors from within the local community and beyond, offering training and development opportunities that will help to keep that talent in Kent and Medway.
