About the role

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Assessment Officer to join the Assessments and Awards Management Team. This role focuses primarily on providing specialist support for examinations and certification activities, including the planning and delivery of the University’s formal examinations and the accurate production and distribution of official documents such as certificates and transcripts.

You will play a key part in ensuring these critical activities are delivered accurately, securely, and in line with institutional requirements. Working as part of a close-knit team, you will collaborate with colleagues to ensure a consistent and high-quality service across all assessment activities.

The role involves regular communication with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, academic staff, professional services colleagues, and external invigilators. You will need to be confident communicating clearly and professionally, and able to provide guidance and support in a calm and approachable manner, particularly when dealing with students who may be anxious or under pressure during key assessment periods. A professional, calm and solution-focused approach is essential in this role.

This is a fast-paced role with periods of peak activity, particularly during examination sessions and award cycles, where workloads can be intensive and deadlines are fixed. You will need to be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively to ensure key processes are delivered on time.

While your core responsibilities will centre on exams and certification, you will also support the wider delivery of assessment services across the team when needed, working collaboratively to ensure seamless operations across the academic cycle.

If you are confident working with data and systems, able to use your initiative to manage processes and resolve issues and motivated by delivering an excellent service in student assessment activities, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Person

We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused individual with experience coordinating complex, deadline-driven processes—ideally within a higher education or similarly regulated environment. We’re seeking someone who combines excellent organisational abilities with a calm, professional, and empathetic approach. You will be able to support students sensitively during key assessment points, while maintaining clear boundaries and upholding institutional standards. Your ability to manage competing priorities, remain solutions-focused and maintain high levels of accuracy under pressure will be essential.

You will have strong communication and problem-solving skills, with confidence using student record systems or similar databases and working with large datasets. A strong customer-service ethos and the ability to build positive working relationships with academics, students and external stakeholders are vital. You’ll bring a flexible, team-oriented approach and demonstrate sound judgement, integrity, and a commitment to continuous improvement in assessment practices.

How will you work?

We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible, and this role is Flexible and connected (Professional Services). Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and throughout the year but must purposefully align to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that there will be a relatively even balance between time spent on and off campus each week on a rota basis; but in most cases the work location will be determined by the service required or the tasks/activities being undertaken and influenced by the University assessment and examination schedules.
