Canterbury Christ Church University are looking for a highly motivated leader with experience of managing student records within SITS to take up the new role of Head of SITS Data Governance within the Registry Services team.
The role is part of the Registry Services Senior management team and provides strategic direction across the University on data governance within the student record system; an authoritative voice on compliance, working with key business areas to support and advise on how to get the most out of the SITS data structure to support core processes.
The academic year 2022/23 marks the first full cycle of managing student records within SITS and a priority for the Head of SITS Data Governance will be to further embed the management and monitoring of data within SITS into institutional working practises, and to review processes and ways of working to facilitate this.
The Role
With a solutions-focus and commitment to continuous improvement, the role holder will lead a central team of Data Partners and Data Analysts who maintain core infrastructure data and build institutional knowledge and understanding of the SITS Academic Model, advise how core data should be used and ensure that the academic model meets business needs.
The role holder will need to establish strong effective working relationships with members of the leadership team within Registry Services and stakeholders across the wider organisation. They will manage the governance of changes to core reference data, including mark schemes, progression rules, award rules, fee matrices, course data, module data, assessment patterns, coding structures, organisational data (e.g., Faculties, Partners). Responsibility for maintaining the reference data is shared between various teams, including the curriculum and records team, assessment team and fees team.
The role will ensure impact assessments on any changes to the SITS academic model and student infrastructure are conducted in response to changes in the external environment, and changes within the University. They will highlight risks, propose mitigations and use their expert knowledge of SITS data structures to influence University-wide decisions to ensure that the SITS student and curriculum data model can support the evolving business needs.
The role will be committed to ensuring regulatory compliance and ensure that SITS data is accessed and managed in line with GDPR requirements, and that data is held and managed in ways that support the range of statutory reporting requirements (e.g. HESES, HESA, Data Futures, SLC, ILR), providing expert advice to senior managers, core records users, and the external returns team on such matters.
The Person
We are looking for a proactive leader with excellent communication, influencing and facilitation skills, and with significant experience in the management of data within a student records system, particularly the management of student records for data quality, reporting and compliance purposes. You will have expert knowledge of the SITS data structures and core references tables, and their relevance to the applicant and student academic cycles.
You will have experience of leading cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams, setting and achieving agreed goals and building staff capability, delivering system or data-related changes, and bringing together key stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks.
