Business Rates Officer
  £15.05 - £18.05 hour (£30,4950 - £34,728 per annum)
  Folkestone, Kent
  temporary,full-time


A new instruction based within the public sector for 2 Business Rates Officers working within a small team moving into the busiest quarter of the year.

Rate of Pay/Duration/Hours of Work etc:
The positions are presented on a temporary basis for 3 months
37 hours per week
Hybrid working available with a minimum of 1 day per week in the office (generally Tuesday which is the team day)
If working in an office setting is preferred a desk is available
Rate of Pay: £15.85 - £18.05 depending on experience

Knowledge and experience we are seeking:

2 levels are available but extensive and specific knowledge in Business Rates considered essential in order to hit the ground running for both positions.

Essential Skills for Level 1 Post:
Knowledge of Business Rates
Good basic education
Recent and relevant experience in an administrative role within a customer service environment
Good IT skills
The ability to interpret legislation and Council policies and procedures ad apply this to specific cases
Ability to work as part of a team
Able to operate on own initiative with minimal supervision
Excellent written and oral communication skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to meet deadlines

Level 2:
Desirable Skills for Level 2 Post:
IRRV Technician (Institute of Revenues, Ratings & Valuation) or equivalent experience
Previous experience in a similar role with knowledge of Business Rates
Recent and relevant Revenues experience
Demonstrable experience/knowledge of non-domestic rates legislation
Knowledge/experience of NEC and NDM systems
Excellent negotiation and persuasive skills enabling the recovery of arrears and maximising revenue
Ability to deal with complex cases and situations
Ability to interpret complete management information and take proactive action
Ability to present information in Court in a clear and concise way
Willingness to learn legislation and procedures regarding other corporate debt functions

The ability to interpret relevant legislation and Council policies and procedures and apply this to specific cases
