Student Services Manager
Actual salary £29,235 per annum (£33,990 full time equivalent)
  Dartford, Kent
  permanent,full-time

Students at The Leigh UTC “are proud to attend a school that is realising its vision of ‘developing STEM professionals for the future global market’” Ofsted, 2022.

The Leigh UTC opened in 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities. We are the first UTC to join a multi-academy trust, the first UTC to become an IB World School, the first UTC to be built in Kent and among the first Academies in the UK to offer T-levels and Level 3 and 4 apprenticeships. We were the first UTC to open from Year 7 and have been oversubscribed in all year groups ever since, now serving over 800 young people from Kent, Medway and South-East London. We are a pioneering Academy and are looking for like-minded, ambitious people who can make great things happen for the young people in this community.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our highly effective pastoral team. Our team of Student Services Managers are all highly effective practitioners who make genuine impact to the success of the young people at The Leigh UTC.

Our Student Services Managers work with each other in a very close-knit team. Being a member of the team means that you are responsible for a year group’s personal development and professional habits. Students who have high performance in their learning will have high expectations of themselves in terms of standards of dress, punctuality and behaviour and it is the role of the Student Services Manager to support their students to excel in this regard. Student Services Managers are afforded a great level of autonomy in their work and those with excellent communication skills and seeking a deep sense of purpose should look no further.

All our Student Services Managers are trained DSLs and contribute to the safeguarding of students in their year group in collaboration with the schools experienced DSL and collaborative team. If you want a role that allows you to go home with a genuine sense of satisfaction then this may be the job for you. We make a difference.

The Leigh UTC is a very special place to work and pre-application visits are both encouraged and welcomed. Ideally the candidate will have some experience of working in schools, but this is not essential.

Why work for us? At The Leigh UTC, we create opportunities for meaningful collaboration for staff, we provide a respectful working environment and we encourage innovation from every member of our team. Our Principal, Governors, teaching and support staff believe wholeheartedly in creating opportunities for lifelong success for our young people and believe that exam success is just one aspect in achieving this. We deliver amazing experiences for students whilst not compromising on outcomes. Our teamwork allows us to be greater than the sum of our parts - join us to achieve more than you thought possible. Don’t just take our word for it...click here to find out more from some of our current staff members!

Curriculum is king and we do things a little differently to other schools or colleges because we believe the most effective way to educate our students is to make our learning more hands-on. With the International Baccalaureate Middle Years programme (MYP) at KS3, GCSEs at KS4, and A-levels, T-levels and the International Baccalaureate Careers Programme (IBCP) at KS5, our ambitious curriculum offer caters for choice, leading the vast majority of students into STEM-related careers or courses.

Working with us: Having opened in September 2014 with state-of-the-art facilities originally for Key Stage 4 and 5, The Leigh UTC provides an exciting, innovative, business-led, problem-solving curriculum, enabling students to achieve relevant academic and work-related qualifications and transferable skills for future destinations. The most unique feature of The Leigh UTC is its business ethos that are emphasised by our STEM rich curriculum and relationships with local and national employers.

In September 2017, following the request of the Department for Education due to our continued success, The Leigh UTC marked history by expanding its student intake to incorporate Key Stage 3 – the first UTC in England to do this. Furthermore, being the first UTC to have IB World School Status has enabled us to develop strong international links. Having IB Status has enabled us to further develop the mid-years programme (MYP) for our Key Stage 3 students and thus providing a joined-up pathway from ages 11 to 19. The overarching mission of the Inspiration Academy is to develop curious, academically-skilled young people who aspire to be principled, compassionate learners. Our curriculum strives to create students who are self-motivated, competent, willing to take risks and lifelong learners.

Our key successes and features that our successful candidate can be part of are as follows;

The promotion of pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding.
Pupils, including the disadvantaged and those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, catch up from previous underachievement and make strong progress in a range of subjects and disciplines
Application to learning is often exemplary.
The Leigh UTC makes a real difference for its pupils and surrounding area. Pupils become motivated to find and follow their passions. They leave well equipped to succeed in engineering and related technical and design careers and contribute to the economy.
The Principal, with his leaders and staff team, model a high-quality working environment. This rubs off on pupils, who value the supportive ethos, work-like atmosphere.
Our student destinations since opening reflect the value of a UTC education, with the vast majority going into STEM careers and no NEETs

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st April 2024, our Trust comprises 32 geographically organised academies (16 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating more than 20,000 students and employing 3,000 talented staff. Nearly 40% of our academies are judged outstanding overall by Ofsted, versus 15% nationally. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.
