Lecturer / Senior Lecturer Midwifery Project Lead – Supporting Learners Innovatively with Coaching (SLIC)

FTE – 2 years fixed-term until 01.01.2025

Background of role

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Health Education England’s, midwifery expansion project. The successful candidate will lead the implementation of new and innovative models of coaching within our practice placement areas, with the aim of supporting learner in a more effective and proactive way, which in turn will maximising placement capacity.

Working with the School Director of Placement Education and Employability and the Head of School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social work the Project Lead will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the project’s objectives.

The post holder will work collaboratively with key staff within the University and placement providers to instigate, implement and evaluate the innovative methods of coaching and supporting midwifery students. Ultimately the focus of this role is on the expanding new learning environments which are aligned to the new standards and maternity transformation programmes across a variety of environments. Also, to provide students with access to more simulated environments to prepare for real-life scenarios. The post holder should establish more opportunities for students to partake in leadership, research and educational activity within the context of the workplace and wider organisation. To implement and evaluate innovative ways of working and embed as business as usual.

The postholder will develop resources and support preparation of midwives and students in coaching methodologies, within ante/postnatal ward areas, with the aim of maximising the capacity and capability of these areas. It will offer a new perspective for students which would enrich their learning affording them opportunities to learn from expert practitioners.

Candidates will be considered from a variety of backgrounds, you might be a retired professional or qualified nurse / midwife who is not currently practising, we would be pleased to receive your application. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of the NMC and relevant frameworks surrounding this. Whilst this role is advertised as a full time position we will consider flexible working options as required.
