The Faculty wishes to appoint an inspirational Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI)

to help shape our existing and new computing programmes in the School of Engineering, Technology and Design provision and lead research and enterprise in this developing area of the University’s research portfolio. You should have experience at applying AI to real-world society problems and we would specifically welcome applications from those with a background in applying AI to;

Computer Science
Data Intelligence
VR/AR
Industry 4.0
Cybersecurity
Internet of Things
Internet of Medical Things

You will have the opportunity to join a growing team of computing and engineering educators and researchers at the start of the new School of Engineering, Technology and Design’s journey. As Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) you will have the academic opportunity to make a major contribution to the School’s full-time undergraduate, postgraduate and degree apprenticeship provision, and to take a leadership and collaborative role in growing research and development activities in the School.

The computing courses have adopted into their curriculum a problem-based/CDIO teaching approach that aims to produce work-ready engineering graduates that can research, develop, implement and operate inclusive technology solutions for society’s benefit. In the computing and engineering we are keen to develop learning opportunities on data and cyber security for undergraduate, postgraduate, apprentices and industry CPD short courses to support region and national industry’s computer security.

The University had significant success in the 2021 Research Excellence framework (REF 2021), with this assessment exercise finding that:


The percentage of our world-leading (4*) research has more than doubled since 2014.
2 per cent of CCCU’s submitted work was judged to be either world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*).
At least 15 per cent of research was assessed to be world-leading (4*) in seven out of the 12 UoAs we submitted to, with four UoAs having more than 20 per cent world-leading research and one having more than 40 per cent.
The percentage of our impact that has been rated as world-leading (4*) has more than quadrupled since 2014.
3 per cent of our impact case studies were rated as world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*), compared to 52 per cent in 2014.

Candidates who want to return to work after a career break, would also be welcomed, and professional development to develop individuals to be higher education educators will be provided.
