Southborough Town Council is looking to recruit a Grounds person to help maintain and care for the areas of land and play areas under its control. The person will be required to work as part of a team and be prepared to be very adaptable as this varied job will require.

A full driving licence is desirable, as is experience in this type of work, which includes play equipment, ground, and buildings maintenance, together with the use of tools and machinery such as, hedge trimmers, mowers etc. Some on the job training can be provided. This position is for 37 hours per week, with 24 days holiday. Salary will be £20,493 per annum.

To assist the Head Grounds Person in ensuring that all the Council’s open space and amenities are maintained to the highest standard. You will sometimes be expected to work on your own initiative and manage the areas of work that you have been delegated. Your line manager will be the Head Grounds Person.

You will be required to have the ability to drive, handle and maintain a Ride-On Mower, Ford Transit, tractor, gang mower, hand mowers, hedge cutters, chain saws and various other hand tools used for the care and maintenance of property and equipment.

It is desirable for you to hold or be willing to learn: -

· a current full, clean driving license

· some knowledge regarding fertilizers, grass seed, turf, trees, and other amenity area products

· Knowledge regarding spares and sundries pertaining to general maintenance.

· knowledge of general maintenance of buildings, paths etc

Training will be provided where applicable.

General Duties:

The maintenance and care of the Common open space to include, grass cutting, edging and bin emptying.

The maintenance and care of the Common woodland areas, to include basic footpath clearance of the Tunbridge Wells Circular Route and the All-Ability Trail, ditch clearing and hedge trimming.

To maintain under guidance from the Head Grounds Person, all areas of open space, which include, Southborough Cemetery, three play areas, two allotment sites, playing fields and all other land owned by the Town Council.

This post will include the emptying of litterbins from open spaces and from properties owned by the Town Council.

To maintain grass cutting and other equipment and to inform the Head Grounds Person of any problems or damage etc. and ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements are observed.

To keep storage areas tidy and secure.

To maintain the Council Notice Boards as required.

To perform any day-to-day maintenance tasks on Council property which do not require the specialist skills of a Contractor.

To familiarise yourself and comply with all the requirements of Health and Safety regulations related to your work and follow good practice at all times.

To attend all and any such Health and Safety training courses that the Council shall require you to attend. To advise the Council of any requirements that the Council should take note of and action as a result.
