Democratic Services Assistant
SECTION: Democratic and Electoral Services
SALARY: Grade 6 £22,029 – £23,585
Pride in our Borough: A Borough that works for everyone
We are seeking an enthusiastic person with initiative and drive to join a critical team supporting the democratic processes of the Council and helping to ensure that decisions are taken effectively and lawfully. This administrative role will involve co-ordinating and servicing meetings of the Council’s Senior Officers and supporting the wider team in delivering a high-quality service to the Council’s Councillors, Executive and Committees.
Applicants for the post will need the ability and skills to communicate effectively at all levels. Interpersonal and organisational skills are essential, and you will need to be able to complete a high volume of work accurately, with competing priorities on your time. The successful candidate will be expected to work in an often-high pressure environment, ensuring their work is of a high standard at all times in order to support good governance and decision making. Occasional evening work may be needed with forward notice.
We welcome applications from candidates without any previous experience in a Democratic Services environment, provided the candidate can demonstrate the ability and attitude required.
As an employee of Maidstone Borough Council, you will have access to the following:
• Employee Assistance Programme which provides confidential & independent information and guidance 24/7
• Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
• Generous annual leave per year + bank holidays (plus additional days after 5 years’ service)
• Opportunity to work flexibly between home and the office
• Access to annual flu vaccines
• Cycle to work / Car benefit scheme
• Staff benefits discount platform on leisure, eating out & shopping
Maidstone Borough Council has a Hybrid Working Policy, which allows for flexibility in work location for eligible roles.
Maidstone Borough Council has a Sponsor License which enables successful candidates in eligible roles to be sponsored for work Visa purposes.
The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers, adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and providing advice in accurate spoken English, is fundamental to the role.
Maidstone Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.
