Background

An incredible opportunity at Canterbury Christ Church University for a Sport Development Officer specialist.

• Design and deliver new and exciting sport & physical activity opportunities
• Support the delivery and help to grow our student sport programme
• Help get more of our University more active and playing sport
• Promote our services and encourage people to take part

We are looking for an outgoing candidate with a passion for sport. Our vibrant and friendly team works with creativity and energy to deliver a huge range of sport and physical activity opportunities to our students and staff. You could be part of our team, working in a supportive environment where everyone is challenged to deliver excellence as standard.

At Christ Church we care about sport, health, and fitness. We have invested in multi-million-pound facilities, including our University Sport Centre with double sports hall, state of the art spin studio and gym and fitness facilities. Our gym is packed with modern fitness equipment, and we offer a wide range of fitness classes, personal training and an exercise referral service. We also deliver amazing programmes and interventions for sport, physical activity and wellbeing, including an innovative mobile app that tracks steps and rewards with prizes!

Incredible Perks

At Canterbury Christ church University, we offer a huge range of discounts and perks to staff who join our team. Including:

• Free gym membership
• Personal Training opportunities
• Staff are able to purchase a TOTUM (previously NUS Extra) card that offers a range of savings, from Amazon to Oasis and Asos to Zizzi’s!
• Development and training opportunities
• Free eye tests through our eye care scheme
• And much more!

The Role

As Sport Development Officer, you will have your say in helping to design and deliver our sport and physical activity programmes, getting more students, staff and community members playing sport and being excited about being active. Additionally, you will help seek out funding opportunities to maximise the impact our programmes can offer. You will play a key role in the promotion of our services and communicating with staff and students to get them involved.

You will additionally plan and coordinate everything you need to deliver a calendar of incredible programmes and events. You will similarly contribute to designing strategy - helping to shape our growing service.

The Person

We would love to see someone with a passion for sport at all levels who recognises the benefits of social sport, understands University sport and knows what it takes to engage our user groups. You will have good organisational skills and perhaps some project management experience. You should be confident with IT, including experience with excel, word and power point. Above all, you must be motivated by wanting to make a difference to people’s lives through sport and physical activity.

Additional Information

Canterbury Christ Church University is committed to equality of opportunity, supporting and encouraging underrepresented groups as well as valuing diversity. We promote wider inclusion through our policies such as the Race Equality Charter, StoneWall for LGBT+ groups and the Disability Confident Scheme, guaranteeing an interview to all disabled candidates which meet the essential criteria for our roles.

We aim to create an inclusive working culture in which all employees feel valued. We particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, which are currently underrepresented throughout Canterbury Christ Church. We are committed to improving employment opportunities for ethnic minorities. We also welcome applications from LGB, Trans and Non-binary candidates. All applications decisions and progression opportunities through the University will be determined by personal merit only.
