The School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent is seeking a motivated Research Assistant with experience in UK policy making to join the ESRC funded research project Securing Global Britain: building and sustaining plurilateral practices of security cooperation in Europe.

The project supports ESRC’s UK in a Changing Europe initiative which aims to promote rigorous, high-quality and independent social science research and to provide an authoritative, non-partisan and impartial reference point for those looking for information, insight and analysis about the post-Brexit and post-COVID UK.

As a Research Assistant you will be required to utilise your existing research and experience to support Professor Richard G. Whitman in promoting knowledge exchange with stakeholders in UK, European and US-based practitioner communities. You will be expected to help schedule elite interviews, transcribe interview notes and recordings, and help manage, edit and publish online-based reports.

As Research Assistant you will:

Analyse and interpret the results of research, document research output (including maintaining records and databases), draw conclusions and generate original ideas based on outcomes
Planning and conducting assigned research individually or jointly in accordance with project deliverables and research strategy
Assist in the coordination of events and activities central to the delivery of the project
To be successful in this role you will have/be:

Bachelor in Politics or equivalent qualification in relevant discipline
In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of utilitarianism and work on moral person perception/trust
A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the wider subject area

43 days leave per year (calculated pro-rata for part time staff) which include personal leave, bank holidays and additional days allocated for the Christmas period
