Three years fixed term – January 2023 start

Background

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant/ tutor in the field of Strength and Conditioning. The successful candidate will be joining a vibrant team of staff, students and other stakeholders and will play a key part in 1) supporting and developing consultancy and 2) enhancing our outstanding student experience.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Sport Scientist to take on the important role of ‘consultant instructor’ working in the field of strength and conditioning for our consultancy unit SportsLab. SportsLab operates out of the School of Psychology and Life Sciences and is an integral part of the business associated with the Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The consultancy services delivered will account for approximately 50% of your time in this role. The remaining time will be allocated to delivering the ‘consultancy informed’ curricula that underpins our courses through the delivery of taught sessions to our student cohort. It is envisaged that these sessions will develop undergraduate and postgraduate skills and competencies through laboratory and practical work aligned with industry requirements.

This role will also support education visits to the University to support local schools and colleges.

The role holders will raise awareness of SportsLab to both internal and external stakeholders; and will seek to explore how SportsLab can facilitate other aspects of University, Faculty, School and Section business within their specialist areas. The role holder will engage with key staff to deliver the business generated and will play a key role in identifying and managing resources to support their role.

Requirements

The post holder will have the minimum of a good undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) and a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline. The successful candidate will hold an industry relevant qualification in the field of strength and conditioning. We will consider applicants who are close to completion of these qualifications. The successful candidate will have experience and a commitment to delivering a high-quality service to a range of stakeholders and be able to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills. A broader skill set beyond strength and conditioning would also be advantageous (e.g., the wider fields of sport and exercise science/coaching/ PE/sports therapy and rehabilitation).
