ABOUT THE ROLE: ASSISTANT MANAGER (DRIVER ESSENTIAL)

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager with solid experience of supporting autistic adults. This is a full time and permanent position working for a very well-established autistic care provider. Very interesting and varied role with scope for progression.

KAT provide practical and emotional support to ensure the adults we care for enjoy active lives in the community. We support individuals on a 1:1 basis with complex needs, including physical and learning disabilities. We are an outstanding care employer and very proud of the specialist PBS training, coaching and ongoing support that our practice development team provide to our staff.

The role of Assistant Manager is integral to the smooth operation of our establishments. The role is fully hands-on and provides the Centre Manager with clear oversight of day-to-day care and staffing.

KAT has a strong training ethos. Training is centrally managed, and the Assistant Manager plays a key role in ensuring that the hands-on training of new support staff is being met and that staff are progressing through their foundation training. The Assistant Manager will ensure that staff receive constructive feedback and that the regime of quarterly supervisions and practical competency assessments in administering medication, manual handling etc are adhered to.

The Assistant Manager will lead by example, adopting a proactive approach to achieving a positive, engaging, and promotional relationship building role with the people we support, families, staff, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders. They also help us to maintain and develop effective communication systems within the team and other services.

The Assistant Manager will be required to undertake ad hoc administrative task. We are currently transferring to digital management systems, and therefore applicants do need to be IT literate as they will be one of our onsite champions helping with the rollout of current and new systems, supported by our In-house Digital Partner.

This is not a role for the faint hearted but it is a fantastic opportunity for a natural problem-solver who is excited about change and can take challenges in their stride.

To succeed you must already have solid Team Leader or Deputy Manager experience and be able to provide reassuring leadership in an emergency. The Assistant Manager roles at KAT are our ideal natural succession for future management roles and therefore there is opportunity for progression for aspirational staff into management roles across the Trust.

MEET THE TEAM:

Lock Street is a day service provision that supports 9 male individuals. It is an open planned service located close to Gillingham High Street, with a large hall upstairs where parties and social functions can be held for the individuals we support.

The individuals participate in a wide range of activities within the community including community events, volunteering at an animal sanctuary, going to the gym and visits to the coast with picnic lunches and meals out.

The specialist staff team in situ is looking forward to welcoming a new colleague to their team and has suggested we let you know they love BBQs in the summer and to meet up for drinks and meals. They are a dynamic group of people full of exciting ideas for many different events to celebrate within the service.

TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN ASSISTANT MANAGER:

The Assistant Manager role may include but not be limited to:

o Support and deputise for the Manager.
o Ensure support teams have the skills and competences required.
o Provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
o Contribute to the recruitment, appointment, and induction of staff.
o Support with supervisions, absence management, disciplinary and grievance issues.
o Promote positive and affective team working through good communication and regular team meetings.
o Monitor training plans to ensure staff training is up to date and meets KAT mandatory training requirements.
o Ensure that appropriate person-centred support arrangements are in place.
o Undertake administrative tasks as required e.g., staff records, management returns and maintaining records.
o Monitor all financial matters relating to the service in accordance with policies and procedures.
o Liaise with external professionals, individuals and families as required.
o Ensure health and safety requirements are met within services and comply with Health and Safety Legislation.
o Plan and implement service development along with the Manager.
o Support individuals within the community in activities such as bike rides, long walks and shopping,
o Uphold their privacy, confidentially and dignity.
o Assisting individuals with personal care and hygiene
o Administering medication
o Household management tasks cooking, cleaning etc.
o Handle money to shop, going to the bank etc.
o Working with individuals who can display challenging behaviours hurting self or others, running away, throwing things, swearing, shouting.
o Working with and supporting individuals with additional needs, such as epilepsy, pica, learning disabilities.
o To form good working relationships with other members of staff across different services.
o May include lone working.
o Drive an individuals mobility car or service vehicle Manual Licence required (ESSENTIAL)
