Centred around the towns of Sittingbourne, Faversham and Sheerness, within the Borough of Swale you will find 1,750 listed buildings, 51 Conservation Areas, numerous other heritage assets and our international and nationally designated sites of ecology and landscape importance including the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Working in a Borough that faces such a diverse range of Planning challenges, we are looking for individuals who can really make an impact.
A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual wanting to gain a wide breadth of experience across a wide range of planning issues and to be involved with a progressive and innovative team aiming to make a significant difference to the quality of life for those living and working within the Borough.
With a working knowledge of the Town and County Planning Acts and a background in investigative work, the successful candidate will deal with the implementation of the enforcement of planning legislation within the Borough of Swale, responding to complaints, inspecting the area and investigating and reporting on unauthorised developments and uses.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, positive, and proactive individual with a real customer focus. You will play a key role in delivering an effective development management and enforcement service covering all unauthorised developments relating to the Planning Acts and for ensuring that development is carried out in accordance with the relevant permissions.
You will need to be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, a good team player, with excellent communication and customer focus skills. You are also confident, patient, tactful and tolerant and have good organisational skills with an ability to work under pressure, to deadlines and to use your own initiative. You should be self-motivated and have a flexible attitude towards work as some visits may be required outside of normal office hours. A driving licence with use of your own car is essential.
This is a permanent, full time position with opportunities for flexible working under the Council’s New Ways of Working policy.
Swale Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.
