Due to our continued growth and success we are looking for a Motorcycle Buyer to join our busy team in Sittingbourne, Kent.
The role predominantly consists of searching private adverts to source quality motorcycles which meet our standards. We primarily target motorcycles up to 10 years old and 15,000 miles.
Key parts of this role are contacting sellers, negotiating terms, visiting sellers across the country and appraising motorcycles to a very high standard. At all times you will need to work flexibly. This is a full time role which will include weekends and evenings to ensure we give ourselves the best chance to acquire the stock we need for our busy motorcycle dealership.
You will be the primary buyer of quality motorcycles for our dealership, and you will be responsible for making your own appointments. Your time will be split between searching and negotiating from our office, and appraisals and collections across the country.
You will also deliver motorcycles which we have sold while you are collecting motorcycles. You will be responsible for planning our deliveries and collections to ensure that it is as efficient as possible.
You will prepare for auctions and attend both online and physical auctions, and foster relationships with main dealers.
You will follow our internal processes to ensure that motorcycles are created in our IT system, and create the initial advert on our website. When motorcycles arrive at our showroom you will immediately take pictures and a brief video tour.
As necessary, you will take further very high quality photos in our photo booth and carry out detailed video tours once motorcycles have been through our thorough valeting process.
While the primary aim of the role is to buy, when working at the showroom you will also be expected to sell when customer inquiries are high during the working week, and on Saturdays, which is generally our busiest day in the showroom.
During periods of staff absence you will provide cover for the sales team.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
You will be comfortable in a front-line customer facing role, and passionate about delivering excellent customer service.
You will be an ambassador for our business, and your passion for motorcycles will be one of your greatest strengths. This isn’t a role for a casual motorcyclist. You must be an experienced motorcyclist with a good technical understanding of motorcycles.
You will have excellent IT skills with extensive experience of using computers in a business environment. You will have used software systems along with web hosted systems, and be very comfortable using both Word and Excel.
You will have motor dealer experience and preferably with high performance modern motorcycles. You will have an eye for detail and be meticulous when it comes to correctly appraising motorcycles, dealing with clients and completing purchase contracts.
You must have knowledge of the used motorcycle market, with a very good technical understanding of motorcycles. You don’t need to be a mechanic, but you must be able to identify faults, and have a very good understanding of what can and can’t be repaired easily, and the cost of doing so.
You must be able to price motorcycles based on criteria set by our Directors. You must understand what a good deal looks like, and understand how each bike you’re considering purchasing can lead to a profit. Without a technical understanding, you won’t be able to do this. You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record in any event.
We are seeking a high achiever with previous experience in the motorcycle or wider automotive industry, someone who is driven to succeed and understands the need to achieve in a target driven business. Applicants with little or no experience in a similar role are asked not to apply.
We will not consider applications from anybody who does not hold full category A & B driving licences (motorcycles, cars and vans).
ESSENTIAL
Above all, you need to be a team player and a problem solver. We are a small family business and you will play a key role in a critical part of the business.
You will need to be comfortable talking to sellers and able to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally, with a very strong technical understanding.
You will have an eye for detail and be meticulous when it comes to correctly appraising motorcycles, dealing with clients and completing purchase contracts.
