Are you a team player? Do you have a kind and sympathetic nature? We have a very unique role, and an opportunity to appoint a Cremation Technician at the Kent & Sussex Crematorium which is owned and operated by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.

Cremation technicians carry out a very important role in both supporting bereaved families during their loved ones funeral service by being present within the chapel and operating our bespoke media system and also in carrying out the cremation process itself in a professional and dignified manner.

The Council currently provides services and facilities for some 2,100 cremation services each year as well as 50 burials, and we are looking for someone to be part of our dedicated and caring team, providing the highest level of customer service and technical ability, to bereaved families, visitors and stakeholders.

Experience and qualifications for this role are not essential as full training will be given.

This is a customer facing role and the successful applicant will need to demonstrate first class customer service skills and even more importantly, a natural empathy and willingness to help people at a very difficult and distressing time in their life.

You will be working as part of a small team, completing tasks on a rota basis, either supporting services within the crematorium chapel, working in the grounds or carrying out the cremation process.

Elements of this role require some physical exertion and working outside in all weathers along with exposure to human remains (bones and ashes) following the cremation process.

There will be a need on occasion to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service.

Additional benefits for this post include 22 days annual leave (increasing to 27 days after 5 years Local Government service), membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme as well as invaluable training opportunities for continuing professional development.
