HR Advisor – Five Acre Wood School

Maidstone, Kent

Term time only plus one week

Salary: Actual salary is £27,502-£31,119 including Five Acre Wood allowance (Full Time Equivalent is £30,742-£34,806)

Hours: 37 hours per week - 8am-4pm (finishing at 3.30pm one day per week, to be agreed with line manager) – term time only plus one additional week to be worked during school holidays.

Providing HR support to the organisation on recruitment, onboarding, absence management, performance management, disciplinary and grievances and HR systems.

Support Head of HR and work with the other HR Advisor to deliver the people strategy in one of the largest special needs schools in the country.

It is essential that the successful candidate has at least a Level 5 CIPD qualification and at least 3 years HR experience at Advisor level.

Responsibilities

The HR Advisor is responsible for the following:
• Provide high quality consistent advice and to act as a trusted HR Advisor to build a reputation as a credible, professional and flexible HR specialist.
• Work with the school to translate HR strategy into clear objectives that are aligned to the future needs and provide accurate and timely support that enables the school to achieve its goals.
• Recruitment & Selection to include job design, reviewing and updating job descriptions, advising on the best recruitment strategies to maximise talent pool, shortlisting, assessment centres including interviewing.
• Onboarding, including coordinating the appointment process for successful applicants ensuring best practice onboarding takes place so new employees are aligned with the “Five Acre Way” and are integrated and comfortable with their new role as soon as possible.
• Absence Management to include return to work interviews, managing absence in line with the absence policy, referral to occupational health, absence management meetings. Identifying trends and patterns of absence and recommendations to improve.
• Advising on terms & conditions of employment and policies and procedures
• To collate and report on HR management information including headcount, absence and turnover.
• Performance Management including assisting with the Annual Performance Review process.
• To generate HR correspondence for areas of responsibility to internal and external stakeholders.
• To support HR Projects where applicable.
• Lead the project for a new HR Management information system.
• Monitoring key recruitment metrics, such as turnover and retention rates
• To provide and undertake administrative support & procedures relating to a wide range of HR activities.
• Ensure all HR queries are dealt with promptly and reliably.
• Monitoring, reviewing and updating all HR policies and ensuring these are in line with current legislation
• Supporting the HR department with various capability investigations, including grievance and disciplinary
• Organising volunteer and work experience placements

Person Specification

• Minimum CIPD level 5 qualification
• Minimum of 3 years HR experience at Advisor level
• Sound employment legislation knowledge
• Have excellent administration skills including a good knowledge of MS Office particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Have excellent standard of written and verbal English
• Have the ability to establish effective relationships
• Be a strong influencer at all levels
• Have the ability to use initiative
• Have the ability to self-manage own workload
• Have the ability to work to tight deadlines and be flexible as needed
• Be delivery focussed and meet expectations
• Displays enthusiasm to broaden own experience, knowledge and skills which are also shared openly with the wider HR team
• Displays an openness to new ideas and different ways of working
• Effectively communicate and support other members within the HR team
• Experience of and a desire to work in a fast paced and dynamic department
•Have an attention to detail
• Display excellent, supportive team work skills
