Management Accounts Assistant (Maternity Cover) – MT1918

Full or Part Time Position (12 months Temporary/Maternity Cover) a minimum of 3 to 4 days per week, 7am – 4pm daily, Paid Weekly 

Our client, based on the Medway City Estate in Rochester, Kent is an award winning fin-tech start-up and is now in an exciting and rapid paced stage of growth. They have developed the world’s first self-service coin currency exchange kiosk which will dominate the way money exchange is transacted. They are a world leader in the design and manufacture of automated foreign exchange kiosks. Their kiosks can accept a vast amount of different currencies including currencies which are now out of circulation and turn these into pounds, euros or US dollars. With leading edge technology, they aim to have global presence within the next couple of years. With contracts already signed with TfL, Westfield and Virgin Rail, they will shortly be dominating money exchange transactions within the rail network in the UK. Further plans for the European and overseas markets are presently being negotiated.

We are looking for a trustworthy, professional and proactive individual with a good team working ethos to join their team. We seek an individual who is a well organised, flexible, experienced and highly motivated who has excellent skills.


We currently have a great opportunity for a Management Accounts Assistant to join our team (for up to 12 months).  Your role will be to run the core monthly accounting processes, as well as assisting with external and regulatory reporting requirements. Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for the core aspects of management and financial reporting.

Due to the nature of the industry in which we operate, you will need to be confident working within a regulated environment, be adaptable, quick to learn, able to work autonomously and with little direction.

Criteria for the Position are:

Sound computer literacy with strong excel skills
Attention to detail and ability to “self-review” essential
Highly Proficient in excel (VLOOKUP / SUMIF / Pivot table)
Experience of using different accounting and payroll packages in previous roles
Knowledge of Exchequer and / or SAGE payroll desirable
Minimum AAT Level 3 (or equivalent)
Ability to follow existing procedures exactly working to existing deadlines, while also implementing process improvements
Experience in a management accounting role in Financial Services, Retail or e-Commerce desirable (although not essential)
Experience of interim / fixed contract work preferred

(due to the rapid expansion of the company this role may provide an opportunity to go permanent in 2021)


What Will I Be Doing?

Managing the Accounts Payable process, managing supplier queries and assisting the CFO with cashflow forecasts
Assist HR Director in preparing payroll calculations in SAGE payroll, managing the payroll system (Bright HR) and Pension (NEST) system entries
Liaison with HMRC / external advisers including preparation and submission of quarterly digital VAT returns
Management of the fixed asset register / depreciation calculations
Review and preparation of travel expense claims and reconcile petty cash claims
Generate all accounting entries / journals (weekly / monthly) including manual postings
Preparation of Balance Sheet reconciliations (accruals / prepayments / bank / petty cash)
Ensure management accounts are updated to allow kiosk performance to be measured accurately
Support CFO with financial information for quarterly forecasts / budgets
Review and analysis of supplier costs including utilities / office costs
Play a key role in implementing new revenue recognition and improvements to stock accounting processes
Provide cover for Commercial and Customer Analyst for daily reporting and forecasting activities (and assisting with resolving customer complaints)

What Would I Need to Succeed?

Ability to improve processes / timetable to reduce time to create month end management accounts
You will have access to support from the external adviser who originally set up the financial processes and systems used today. However, you need to have experience of working with non - office based colleagues by phone / email.
A willingness to learn new skills, adapt quickly to changing environments

Working Hours

7.00am to 4.00pm with an hour break

The role can be full or part time (minimum 3 days a week) based on the experience of the successful candidate
Month end deadlines are relatively flexible with a target for completion by WD6

Salary (Depending on Experience)

£9.61 to £13.46 per hour Paid Weekly + holiday pay
