A newly created role for a company accountant has been established within my client, a long standing SME business in East Kent. The business is well backed and with several projects in the offing that will now increase the requirement for more financial insight on a daily basis.

Working in a close knit team, this role will focus on delivering a first class internal accounting service to the business, with an initial focus on a review and assessment of current process and procedures.  Liaising across the business, you`ll ensure that differing departments have what they need from you and consequently, understand the need for accurate information to be fed through to finance.

In detail, this role will put together the monthly management accounting pack, including accruals and pre-payments along with full commentary and analysis. You`ll ensure that revenue and expenditure is accurately captured and well documented, with the company cash flow position understood at any time. You`ll increase internal controls and compliance standards, manage all reconciliations and have responsibility for all VAT calculations. There will be some treasury management and a small payroll to oversee. You`ll liaise with outside suppliers and customers alike, often being a point of contact for any invoicing or account queries. There are a number of ad hoc projects to play an active part in which would include ascertaining ROI and feasibility and financial impact assessments. They`ll be various administrative and non-finance tasks that will naturally fall your way and you`ll
need to embrace that variety of work.

Applications are sought from accountants with a thorough understanding of SME finance, with the understanding they`ll be a need to be hands on and to work closely with management and non-finance personnel across the business. You`ll need a high attention to detail, be a real team player and have the positive outlook required to affect change and developments in the right way. Good IT knowledge is required with any accountancy qualifications welcomed, but not deemed essential.
