In the last year we've had to write reports on crash proof drones, artisan gin, pig farming, landmine detectors, irrigation systems in Africa, saddle pads for horses, medical devices, free from food, vegan cosmetics, cancer drugs, baby car seats, motorsport engineering, pest control, cyber security, plastic soldier design, the internet of things, e-cigarettes, sex aids, unmanned aircraft, lightweight machine guns, machine learning . . . well we could go on forever, really.

We have to explain what our amazing clients are doing in reports for HMRC, so we can access the tax break and cash back they are due. In essence, this job is about making sure a tax inspector gets to understand the wonderful work of our clients and just how important it is to the UK economy.

So, if you're very used to writing reports in any sphere, can spot a type a mile off, adept at probing for further information and find it rewarding to find new ways to describe things, read on.

As this is a client-facing role, you will know how to present yourself and adapt your style to all kinds and all levels of clients in a wide variety of sectors. Daily, you will be responsible for working with our clients as they discuss the technical problems they're facing and trying to overcome. You will have a natural affinity with business owners and entrepreneurs and be keen to help them access government funds where we can.

No formal training in report writing is necessary and an understanding of R&D tax is not needed, but you will need to be confident discussing finances and speaking to clients at a senior level. If you struggle to download an app on your mobile phone and are still mystified by the intricacies of texting, this job is not for you.

If you want to work where you’ll be valued, in a close-knit and positive team, finish at lunchtime on a Friday and enjoy 27 days holiday a year (plus bank holidays), you’ll probably like it here. But you must have at least 2 years solid work experience in a client-contact role. You also need your own transport and a full driving licence.
