Post: Shift Manager at Montgomery Court Charity Shop
Accountable to: Operations Manager and Retail Manager
Job Summary:
Be responsible for the day to day running of the Medway League of Friends Montgomery Court Shop. The Post Holder will be responsible for checking the takings, reporting any defects to West Kent Housing Association and the Managers of The Medway League of Friends. Furthermore, the Post Holder will assist with all aspects of local stock control.
Hours: Full-time 35 hours per week (excluding breaks) working on a four on four off shift pattern with 10 hour shifts.
Main Responsibilities
Specific:
1. To check daily takings to the relevant till and card machine reports and investigate discrepancies.
2. To transport takings to Medway Maritime Hospital for banking
3. To manage the cash requirements for floats for all tills.
4. To implement the League’s procedures for the safe handling and securing of takings, and maintaining related bookkeeping records.
5. Ensure the shop has enough stationery in order to operate efficiently.
6. Assist in stock control routines including checking deliveries and booking in stock, identifying any issues for further investigation.
7. To supervise work shifts for The Medway League of Friends Montgomery Court Shop. This requires the Post Holder to understand and manage all aspects of:
a. Customer service
b. Start of session, income collection and end of session cash handling procedures
c. Stock control and ordering, newspaper deliveries and returns, performance of supervisor functions including chiller checks, shop display and volunteer rostering
d. Security and Health and Safety
e. Cleaning and domestic services, leading on domestic checks
8. In periods of staff absence and as required to provide support for all trading outlets.
9. To plan promotions for special occasions (e.g. Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, etc.)
10. To support the League’s calendar of social, events
11. To carry out duties not specifically listed here, as and when requested.
General:
1) To comply with all relevant requirements arising from the Equality Act 2010 and the EU Working Time Directive.
2) To comply with all requirements arising from Health and Safety, GDPR and other applicable legislation.
3) To comply with the applicable policies of the Medway NHS Foundation Trust, (e.g. Infection Control) and best practice, (e.g. Lone Working, Manual Handling, Conflict Resolution).
Personal Skills
The Post Holder needs to demonstrate:
• Numerical and analytical skills
• Experience of cash handling and a good understanding security issues
• Initiative, attention to detail and self-reliance
• Experience of working at a senior level retail management
• The ability to manage and motivate staff (paid and voluntary)
• Self-reliance and initiative
• The ability to work as part of a team
