New and exciting opportunities working with young people (19-25) with learning difficulties or disabilities

Part-time Learning Support Practitioners

Having opened in September 2018, our success in meeting needs has led to further expansion for October 2019. We have four programmes to meet broad learner profiles:

1. A programme of study and work-related learning and experience.
2. A vocational programme providing a further 1, 2 or 3 years for young adults to continue to develop their personal and social development also independent living skills.
3. A personal development programme providing a further 1, 2 or 3 years for young adults to continue to develop their personal development and independent living skills.
4. A personal development programme providing a further 1, 2 or 3 years for young adults to continue to develop their personal development and independent living skills whilst transitioning to Adult Social Care.

As a Learning Support Practitioner, you would work closely with the teaching staff to support our students in all aspects of their learning, social development, personal needs and developing their skills for independence and employability. In this role you will be able to make a big difference to our young people, all of whom have a wide range of severe and/or complex needs, with associated communication and learning difficulties.

You need to be able to engage and enthuse our young people and help prepare them for adulthood. You don’t need experience of working in a special needs or education environment, although it would be advantageous, as would experience of College or work based learning. Experience of AAC and manual handling would also be beneficial. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills are essential, along with a “can do” approach, flexibility, resilience and strong communication and team working skills.

There are many career development opportunities for those interested in progression, including into teaching and job coaching.

The hours are 30 per week, working four days per week, term time only. The salary is within the range £17,500 to £20,500 per annum (depending on qualifications, skills and experience) and reduced pro-rata for the hours/weeks actually worked. (36 weeks p.a., plus one additional week for professional development and Oakley College development.)

Closing date is 12 noon on Friday, 30th August. Interviews will be held the following week.

If you are interested please look at the College website for further information and how to apply: www.oakley.ac.uk or email sandra.wisdom@oakley.ac.uk Please note that we are unable to accept CVs.

Oakley College is committed to safeguarding young people, a commitment we expect all staff to share and uphold.
