The Role

The University of Kent has estimated about 20,000+ students and staff as well as visitors that we have a duty to protect and secure. Therefore, we are looking for a Security Supervisor who will deputise for one of our Security Duty Managers, take responsibility for the delivery of a first-class security service and lead the university’s response in any serious incident.
The Person
To be successful in this role, you will:
Be educated to GCSE Grade C English or Maths (Level 4) or equivalent;
Have excellent oral communication skills and good listening skills (including the ability to clearly relay information in person and via a radio communication system);
Have excellent written communication skills to effectively provide clear incident reports and complete relevant management documentation;
Possess demonstrable skills in observation and the ability to appraise situations quickly and effectively;
Have proven experience of managing potentially volatile situations and dealing with conflict.
An SIA Certificate, First Aid training and previous experience of working within Security is desired but not essential. For full details about the role and the person specification, please refer to the job description.

The Department
This role is offered by the Estates Department. The Estates Department provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the telephone exchange as well as the University Design & Print Centre. It is also responsible for the buildings, new development and construction projects both at Canterbury and at our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime and on the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
