Job Title: IT Technician
Grade: VIAT 2 (£16,285, plus living wage allowance of £1079)

Base: Valley Park School
Hours: 37 hours per week (full time)
Reports to: ICT Network Manager
Accountable to: Deputy Headteacher



1. Job Summary

To provide maintenance for the school’s ICT equipment and to aid in the teaching and learning of students by providing technical support for staff.

2. Key Working Relationships

• Head of School
• Deputy Headteacher
• Teachers
• Students
• Associate/support staff
• Visitors

3. Responsibilities and Key Tasks

1) To support and maintain ICT equipment throughout the school.

2) Accurately log all equipment faults, and where necessary liaise with external suppliers for the repair of equipment under warranty or insurance.

3) Diagnose and repair hardware and software faults where possible, and to otherwise escalate to 2nd line ICT support for assistance.

4) Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks on ICT equipment including cleaning of monitors, mice and keyboards.

5) Perform MS Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange (email) management of computers and users.

6) Check the functioning of all associated network connections and devices such as network cards, data outlets, patch leads, switches.

7) Unpack and install ICT equipment such as new computers, printers and other associated peripherals.

8) Configure items of equipment including imaging end user devices for use on the school’s network.

9) Maintain a log of all work carried out, where necessary document technical procedures and solutions.

10) Perform regular checks of Audio Visual equipment such as projectors and televisions

11) Monitoring of students’ network activity and alerting the Senior ICT Technician to any issues that may arise.

12) To design and implement secure and productive computer environments for staff and students via the use of Group Policy, scripting and images.

13) To install and test curriculum and admin software on the application server and for deployment on workstations across the network.

14) To advise of procurement needs for minor and repeat purchases to the Senior ICT Technician.

15) Maintain and be accountable for accurate records of hardware and software, including licences.

16) To support the teaching of ICT with technical input as and when required.

17) To carry out as requested from time to time, any other relevant duties as may be required by the Senior ICT Technician, ICT Network Manager or the Headteacher.

18) Participation in the performance management process.
