Financial Controller
Term: Full time 6-month contract, with potential to become FT or PT permanent.
L4V is an award-winning vehicle security provider, with a history spanning 21 years. Based in Gravesend, we employ over 60 people and are a friendly, lively team. You’ll be joining us here in our offices, but there’s an option for hybrid working once you’re fully up to speed, after the probationary period.
Purpose of Role:
L4V needs a Financial Controller to manage, control and provide insight into the company’s finances. You’ll work with a small team to improve reporting, produce statutory accounts and support the executive team.
The business has enjoyed recent rapid growth, and the ambitious management team needs support from a detail-orientated, bright and capable Financial Controller who is passionate about finance.
This is not just data entry: we’re looking for energy, insight and financial discipline. You’ll be able to shape the use of our systems and design new reporting and analysis tools to address the business’ needs.
This is an assignment in two parts. We see the first 6 months as a transformation project as improvements to our SAP Business One system and the associated management reports are implemented. Subsequently, the successful candidate will be ideally placed to apply for a permanent position at the head of the Finance Team as we continue our growth plan.
Main responsibilities
• Preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
• Preparation of management accounts (Balance sheet , P&L and cashflow) and input to statutory accounts
• Produce and present the monthly Management Information packs including Product/Customer profitability analysis, key trends and variances
• Manage a detailed cashflow forecast model – We want to track actuals against previous forecasts, and there is scope to further improve the model we use.
• Ad-hoc reporting – Using Excel, and the Sharperlight Excel add-in which allows access to SAP business One data, you’ll produce reports on stock values, trends and more.
• Advice and input to wider project work – As we fully integrate all Stock lines into our ERP system, you’ll be consulted on the project and be part of system testing.
• Reporting to the Executive – You’ll present the monthly reports to the Directors and highlight any suggestions for improvement.
The skills and characteristics required in this role
• Proven experience in a similar role, with recognised accounting qualifications
• Experience in using general Microsoft Office applications and our ERP system SAP Business One
• Excellent Excel skills and the ability to build and design reports
• Tenacious, with the ability to see a project through to a successful conclusion
• Excellent communication skills; able to suggest improvements and understand stakeholder needs
• Detail-orientated: accuracy and precision are what we need
• Someone who can rise to a challenge; we have literally ‘000s of complexly structured stock lines and a wealth of legacy data. You’ll be at the heart of the project we undertake to improve how we work with these.
• A friendly team player: we are a privately owned business of around 65 people, with a family feel. We value polite and cheerful collaboration over a traditional hierarchy. If you have good ideas, we’d like to hear them!
