A new instructions for an Environmental Health Officer/Food Inspector with an established public sector client.

Qualifications:
Essential
Higher Certificate in Food Control (or equivalent)

Desirable:
BSc (Hons) Environmental Health or Higher Certificate in Food Control (or equivalent) and registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB)
Recognised Health and Safety qualification i.e. NEBOSH /IOSH
Attendance at recognised and relevant courses such as HACCP, Approved Premises, Lead Auditor, Imported Food etc

Essential knowledge, skills & experience
Demonstrable knowledge, experience and expertise in relation to Food Safety, Health and Safety and Infectious Disease Control Legislation and Best Practice
Relevant experience of Food Safety, Health and Safety and Public Health Enforcement

Desirable:
Flexible Health and Safety warrant
Relevant experience of local authority Information Management Systems

Rate of pay: £31,769.00 - £42,895.00 per annum depending on qualifications and experience

Brief summary of duties:
Delivery of statutory food safety functions
Delivery of statutory health and safety in the workplace function
Registration and inspection of tattooists and other skin piercers
Zoo licencing
Investigation of notifiable diseases in partnership with Public Health England
Local monitoring for invasive mosquitoes in partnership with Public Health England

The Main Purpose of the role:
To carry out the Commercial Health Team’s work to protect and enhance public health and the environment as required by statute and the policies of Central Government and the Council
To take appropriate enforcement action as required within the authorisations delegated
To develop and maintain a particular expertise in the areas of Food Safety and Health and Safety
To investigate notifiable infectious diseases
To provide advice and guidance to other members of the Commercial Health Team and wider council, on matters relating to Food Safety and Health and Safety
To provide advice and guidance to commercial premises about meeting their statutory obligations and developing best practise
To contribute to relevant Food Safety and Health and Safety policy development for the Council including the development and delivery of any statutory plans

Key tasks & responsibilities will include:
Carry out inspections/ surveys etc particularly in relation to:
Food safety and control, including, but not limited to - fishing vessels, and inspection of approved food premises, health and safety, skin piercing activities, including registration and inspection
Port Health and Imported Food Control
Zoo licensing
Infectious Disease Control
Private water supplies

To carry out the full range of Official Food Controls including, but not limited to Food Hygiene inspections etc
Enforcement for non-compliance in accordance with Health and Safety legislation etc including gathering evidence, writing warning letters, serving improvement notices, taking statements, carrying out PACE interviews, accepting voluntary closure, enforcing formal closure ,taking formal samples, sending evidence to the County Analyst, keeping prosecution files, giving evidence in court, obtaining warrants to enter premises ,and liaising with legal services etc
Investigating Food Safety and Health and Safety complaints, including RIDDOR notifications
The provision of advice and guidance to businesses, land-owners, and other customers, about their obligations in relation to Environmental Health matters
Take appropriate enforcement action
Respond to complaints, queries, and requests for advice
Provide day-to-day advice and guidance to other officers within the team
Give advice about appropriate training
Attend meetings with the Councillors and Officers etc
Report writing
Assist the Environmental Health and Licencing Senior Specialist to set and maintain appropriate standards of professional performance and conduct, and safe working practises
