One of the largest colleges within the University of London and one of the top four ranked Universities in the UK, is currently seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their excellent Legal team.

Purpose of the Role

You will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and support on a wide range of legal matters to the various areas of the School and handling student complaint and disciplinary cases. You would be expected to cover legal issues including dispute resolution, legal agreements, intellectual property, equality and diversity, information management and defamation.

Key Responsibilities:

* Advise colleagues and students on how to resolve difficult and sometimes sensitive legal and regulatory problems.
* Negotiating contracts and resolving contractual and other disputes.
* Working with different areas of the School to try to ensure good and legally compliant working practices and addressing areas of risk.
* Providing clear and concise advice under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Understanding the relevance of equality legislation and welfare issues to a particular issue.
* Draft and present written investigation reports, letters, case briefings, policies and procedures, risk assessments, committee papers and briefings to a wide range of stakeholders.
* Drafting and amending contracts and other legal agreements.
* Engage with the School's lawyers and insurers on specialist areas of the law.
* Provide training on the law and regulatory sector to different audiences, including senior management and academic staff.
* Negotiate dispute resolution and settlement agreements with students and third parties.
* Negotiate legal agreements with external parties.

The Candidate:

* At least one year legal experience, ideally as a lawyer in the Higher Education sector
* Contract Law experience ideal
*

Knowledge of litigation and other court procedures
* Experience with insurance claims
