Location: Kennington (within the community - can vary with notice)
Job Purpose
The Short Courses Trainer will plan for and deliver a range of short courses for entry into the construction sector within a range of custodial setting and in the community. Courses will include (but are not limited to) Manual Handling, CSCS, First Aid at Work, Fire Safety, Traffic Marshall, PAT testing, Abrasive wheel operations, Underground avoidance of services and employability skills. You will set high expectations for the work environment and your learners in terms of security, health and safety and outcomes for learners.
Core Responsibilities
* Provide both accredited and unaccredited training in a range of construction and work based learning and skills.
* Plan engaging and challenging sessions with course material in line with awarding organisation requirements, that meets the need of individual learners.
* Actively engage learners in their own evaluation and assessment. Including ensuring you maintain group profiles, individual learning plans, lesson plans and schemes of learning, ensuring additional learning support needs are central to delivery.
* Ensure daily registers, enrolment forms, learner data and assessment planning are carried out effectively and in line with delivery partner requirements.
* Support the monitoring of delivery and achieved qualifications, in line with quality processes and data protection regulations.
* To support tutors and case managers to help shape and positively impact our learners, to ensure that they are equipped for the world of work and are active in planning a meaningful future.
* To be proactive in following all safeguarding, and health and safety regulations to ensure a safe and secure working environment in line with the company, delivery partners and prison policies.
* Work collaboratively with other trainers and case managers to ensure support is provided to all learners to progress into further learning and employment, including the development of their English and maths skills.
* Ensure that all records are up to date, accurate and meet all GDPR requirements
* Act as an ambassador for the charity in custody and in the community promoting British Values and Diversity and Inclusion.
Personal Specification
Knowledge and Skills
* Extensive experience of teaching further education ideally within a custodial setting.
* The ability to drive and have own transport would be an advantage.
* Evidence of outstanding teaching delivery and a teaching qualification minimum AET; or the willingness to achieve within 12 months.
* Extensive on site experience of working in the construction industry.
* Experience of teaching functional skills and employability (desired).
* Qualified IQA (desired not essential).
* Experience of working with people with complex needs and/or emotional barriers to learning, ideally within a custodial setting.
* An understanding of working with awarding bodies such as City and Guilds &NOCN.
* Experience of working in a multi disciplinary team, creating a culture of high performance and cooperation.
* Recognise and understand the rewards and challenges of working in partnership with prisons, probation, job centres and regional and central government.
* An understanding & commitment to principles and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults including the 'Prevent' strategy.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a thriving team environment.
