Background

The Arts and Culture team initiates and oversees the cultural programme of Canterbury Christ Church University. This is an exciting new role that will shape the exhibition programme of the University and increase the public profile of our cultural projects.

The Role

The Curator and Assistant Manager of Arts and Culture will develop the exhibition programme across Canterbury Christ Church University’s campuses. Building on the emerging profiles of the newly-created exhibition spaces in Canterbury (Daphne Oram Gallery and Verena Holmes Gallery), the role-holder will work with the Head of Arts and Culture, colleagues, and students from across the University to devise diverse and high-quality projects.

There will be opportunities for the postholder to develop their own curatorial programme and commission new exhibitions from external practitioners who are working in areas relating to CCCU’s teaching and research. 

Working with the Head of Arts and Culture, the role will make significant contributions to the creation of strategies for public engagement and financial development of the exhibition spaces.

The role will be required to provide advice to staff and students who are developing projects that include exhibitions, and will need to attend internal meetings and committees as appropriate. The postholder will work closely with the Head of Arts and Culture and will be required to deputise on occasion.

The Person

You will be educated to the degree level (or equivalent standard) with substantial experience in similar roles and strong project management skills. You will have significant experience of developing and delivering an inclusive curatorial programme; fostering collaborative partnerships with stakeholders; and meeting fundraising targets. Robust knowledge of assessing and mitigating risks relating to exhibitions and public events is an essential requirement. A curatorial interest in photography, emergent technologies, and/or games design would be preferred.    

Previous experience of working in an educational environment would also be advantageous.
