Mechanical Support Engineer

Atlas Recruitment Group are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Support Engineer on behalf of our prestigious defence client

As a Mechanical Support Engineer, you will be supporting the Engineering Team in ensuring that the service delivered to various classes of vessels is safe and delivers a functional Engineering product. This is achieved through providing support to the installation team on-board vessels and by previewing technical installation solutions and looking at potential issues which could affect the installation.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to engage in the full life cycle of design issue resolution, from the initial problem through to its solution.



Your main responsibilities as a Mechanical Support Engineer will involve:

* During project delivery, provide support to resolve design queries as quickly as practicable within safety/design intent. This is achieved by working directly alongside the ship repairers, providing support on the vessels to enable the resolution of Engineering and Maintenance Support issues
* During project planning, help review work alongside other groups including ship's staff, Class Output Engineers, and the Ship Repairer to ensure sufficient engineering content and the appropriate quality and assurance to complete the task
* Providing support by carrying out surveys both proactively and reactively to enable the development of Engineering solutions in line with required specifications making sure that they meet the required quality and technical standards
* Aid the ship repairer to understand and meet requirements and standards
* Working collaboratively with the ship repairer to reduce recurring problems



Your skills and qualifications:

* Engineering Qualification from a recognised apprenticeship scheme with suitable experience or equivalent qualification and experience
* Working knowledge of Mechanical Systems including fluid flow and their affects.
* Knowledge of Ships Mechanical Systems or equivalent industry experience, ideally in design
* Ability to help provide sound judgement where required to make correct trade-off decisions
* Understanding of maintenance requirements and their effects on equipment ideally in a ship-based system or equivalent
* Ability to produce technical drawings/sketches by hand and ideally 2D drawings with a recognised software suite. E.g., AutoCAD

* Excellent communication skills to enable technical discussions with customers (including ship's staff/Technical Authorities), colleagues and suppliers
* Able to work effectively both within a team and across the whole project to ensure that team objectives are met
* Ability to integrate and converse with a diverse team of professional engineers
* Able to articulate issues to a level where non-technical partners understand the matter in question
* Support in the exchange of complex engineering design information at Design Reviews
