QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state of the art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target. QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

Technical and Line Management Leadership of the QTS Electronic Engineering Design team covering System, Analogue and Digital design across all QTS products.

Key accountabilities

Line management of Electronic Engineering team
Ownership of electronic engineering processes within QTS.
Ensure that company processes are correctly followed within the electronic engineering team.
Work with Project Engineers to ensure that Engineering projects are suitably resourced for Electronic Engineering and help determine the technical strategy to be taken for each project.
Work with the Head of Engineering and other senior colleagues to develop the product development strategy for QTS.
On-going development of the companies wide range of electronics systems
Design of a wide range of RF, low voltage analogue and digital electronic assemblies
Provide design support of the companies legacy products
Undertake product documentation and testing
Technically lead projects of any size
Provide engineering support to the company’s internal and external customers
Provide support to Field Services and Trials activities.


Experience and Qualifications

Degree in Engineering with a focus on electronics or electrical systems.
Experience leading teams and managing people is essential
Chartered Engineer Desirable
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an electronic engineering development environment
Experience in the design of electronic products is essential
A good working knowledge of PCB and component level circuit design is essential
Hands on experience of electronic test and measurement equipment is essential
Knowledge of CE marking regulations is desirable
Experience of working in aviation is desirable
Must be competent in technical report writing
Knowledge of software development in C++ or C# is desirable
A high level of competency using Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint & Project is essential.
