Office Administrator & PA to Archbishop of Canterbury

£11,750 pa plus excellent benefits (FTE £23,500 pa)

Canterbury, Kent

Diocese of Canterbury

The Office Administrator & PA to the Archbishop of Canterbury is a crucial and incredibly varied role, as you will provide administrative support to the Bishop of Dover to ensure that her duties can be fulfilled effectively, whilst acting as a key point of liaison for members of the Archbishop’s household, ensuring that the Old Palace is prepared for when the Archbishop of Canterbury is in residence.

As the Office Administrator part of your role, you will provide support to the Executive Assistants and the Bishop’s Chaplain within the Bishop’s Office, assisting with meeting and event management along with taking responsibility for record storage and database maintenance.

As the PA to the Archbishop of Canterbury, you will act as the local point of contact for the Archbishop’s staff and household to assist them with administration and guest catering arrangements when the Archbishop is (or is due to be) in residence.

Reporting directly to the Bishop of Dover, Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin, this is a fantastic opportunity to support her in her work, as the only bishop working day-to-day in the Diocese. Bishop Rose has an elevated profile nationally and internationally due to a high level of interest in England’s first female black bishop.

Educated to a good standard, you should have proven experience as an administrator and of working with senior members of staff. With demonstrable interpersonal and organisational abilities, you will quickly establish and maintain excellent working relationships with a wide range of people and be able to develop structured, organised and highly efficient approaches to the work of the office of a senior leader.

An understanding of the importance of following accurate set legal and formal procedures is essential. Whilst the role is part-time, you must be prepared to adapt your hours and work extra when the Archbishop is working in Canterbury.

It is also essential for you to be sympathetic to the mission and ethos of the Christian Church, the Church of England, the Diocese of Canterbury and the vision and values of Canterbury Cathedral. Canterbury Diocese is the oldest diocese in England, stretching from Maidstone to Thanet, the Isle of Sheppey to the Romney Marsh. We have 350 miles of coastline with historic ports and seaside resorts, alongside rural communities, market towns and commuter-belt urban developments. Affluent areas often sit alongside pockets of major deprivation, offering an exciting and challenging mission context.

At the heart of all we do is a vision of transformation for ourselves and our communities: no one can encounter God and remain unchanged. In the Diocese of Canterbury, we want to increasingly become a Christian community transformed through encounter with Christ, growing and overflowing to transform and bless the families, homes and communities we serve: Changed Lives, Changing Lives.
