We are seeking an enthusiastic person with initiative and drive to join a small team supporting the democratic processes of the Council and helping to ensure that decisions can be taken effectively and lawfully. This will involve co-ordinating and servicing meetings of the Council’s Committees, working closely with Councillors and Senior Officers, and preparing and publishing agendas, reports and minutes. Applicants for the post will need the ability and skills to communicate effectively at all levels. Interpersonal and organisational skills are essential, and you will regularly be required to attend evening meetings, for which payment will be made. The successful candidate will be expected to work in an often-high pressure environment advising Councillors and Officers on the constitution and ensuring good governance in the Council’s decision making.

We welcome applications from candidates without previous direct experience in a Democratic Services environment, provided the candidate can demonstrate the skills required and an enthusiastic attitude.

This is career graded role and training will be offered in all aspects of the role, including the possibility of studying for professional qualifications.

The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.

This is a full time position on a one year fixed term contract.
