Canterbury, Kent

The Dean and Chapter of Canterbury

Are you a dynamic, talented, proactive professional looking for an exciting new challenge within an internationally renowned place of worship and world heritage site? Can you provide proactive, strategic leadership for the delivery of an external engagement strategy and secure effective relationships with our stakeholders? If so the exciting opportunity that has arisen at Canterbury Cathedral for the appointment to the brand new role of Head of External Engagement may be the role for you.

Canterbury Cathedral remains one of the most visited places in the country. It is first and foremost a working, living church and community offering a warm welcome to all visitors, groups and individuals from all over the world, delivering its aim ‘to show people ‘Jesus’. Alongside its programme of daily worship, the Cathedral offers a wide range of facilities including guided Cathedra tours, ‘behind the scenes’ visits to unseen areas such as the Stained Glass Studio, Stone Conservation Workshop, Archives & Library and the amazing views across the City from the Bell Harry Tower. It boasts Hotel and Conference facilities, world class, musicians and first class facilities to the 100,000 or so school children who visit the Cathedral every year.

The Cathedral has also recently introduced a brand new Visitor Welcome Centre offering an interactive space and a Community Studio which allows for learning and participation centering on the Cathedral’s heritage, historic collections and themes through messy play, art and craft workshops, performance, screenings, displays, presentations, meetings, talks projects and exhibitions and other small events.

The role of Head of External Engagement will involve coordinating and being a successful influencer, at a strategic level, in engagement, public relations, marketing and line management across the work of external engagement departments and securing effective relationships with stakeholders.
