We are seeking an experienced senior administrator to join Information Services (IS) at the University of Kent as our Head of Business Support. You will advise, influence and engage with colleagues at all levels within IS, and elsewhere in the University, and deliver high quality professional support services underpinned by excellent departmental operational planning and project management.

We are looking for an inclusive, creative and pro-active leader who is highly organised, an excellent communicator and able to work to challenging deadlines.

You’ll have a track record of successfully leading diverse professional support teams, with strong budget management skills and recent experience of delivering substantial organisational change projects.

This is a one-year post to support the department while we transition to and embed the new structures and priorities of the University.

To succeed in this role you will:

- Be educated to degree level or equivalent
- Relevant experience of staff management including an ability to motivate staff, build and lead effective teams and work with colleagues from differing professional backgrounds.
- Financial management skills and the ability to manage and monitor large-scale budgets.
- Ability to develop and interpret policies and procedures and to implement new systems.

As Head of Information Services Business Support you will:

- Manage and develop departmental quality management, budget monitoring, compliance monitoring and operational planning
Lead and manage a combination of IS business support teams [Administration, Finance, Project Support, Quality & Marketing, Copyright & IS Policy]
- Initiate reports, develop proposals for change and implement change to reflect strategic decisions
- Represent the Department at university-wide groups and occasionally external meetings, advising, coordinating and influencing change

Information Services directly supports almost all areas of University activity. We are responsible for:

- Delivering innovative, proactive and co-ordinated services to support the University’s strategies including those for Research, Learning and Teaching, Widening Participation and E-learning
- Providing all members of the University community with conveniently accessible, cost effective, reliable, secure information services and systems appropriate to their needs on the University’s Canterbury, Medway, Tonbridge and other campuses.
- Maintaining information resources in its care (including those in the British Cartoon Archive, and the Templeman Library’s Special Collections) and facilitating access to these and others located elsewhere.
- Providing guidance, advisory services and training to promote the exploitation of all relevant information resources, including newly emerging, stable technologies.
