Are you an enthusiastic, motivated, considerate and patient Support Worker who wants to make a difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities? Then join us at Canterbury Oast Trust as an Awake Night Support Worker based at The New Bungalow, Aldington, Ashford to work 12 hours per week (9.00pm - 9.00am). It is envisaged that this will be undertaken on a Thursday however flexibility is key as there may be a need to cover additional Awake Nights during staff absence.

As this role will entail the provision of personal care to the female residents this post is restricted to female candidates only as the Trust feels this is a Genuine Occupational Requirement of the Awake Night Support Worker in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

The Role:

As an Awake Night Support Worker for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs you will:

o Be responsible for the personal safety and welfare of our service users during the night
o Monitoring and administration of medication
o Maintain appropriate records and written reports
o Undertake basic household duties during the shift
o Provide good quality care and support to the adults based on their needs through a person-centred approach
o Assist them in every aspect of their daily lives, including personal care
o Provide a safe and supportive environment that enables individuals to feel valued, reach their potential and nurture their aspirations


The New Bungalow is home to six adults aged between 44 and 67 who have complex learning disability needs including physical and sensory impairments; epilepsy care; cerebral palsy; diabetes; communication needs and health conditions associated with ageing.

About You:

To be a successful Awake Night Support Worker you will need:

o An appreciation of the needs of people with learning disabilities
o Knowledge of autism and epilepsy would be an advantage
o Knowledge of specialist equipment would be an advantage but not essential as person handling training will be provided
o To be considerate, patient, self-motivated, enthusiastic, respectful, non-judgmental and professional
o Sound interpersonal skills
o Good verbal and written communication skills plus basic IT and report writing skills
o A Health and Social Care NVQ2 or Level 2 Diploma Qualification would be beneficial or be working towards or a willingness to work towards within 18 months of commencement
o To hold a driving licence due to our rural location
