Are you a trained horticulturist with good plant knowledge? Do you have skills and a passion for gardening to pass on to the next generation? We are keen to recruit a Technical Instructor in Horticulture to support our lecturing staff, provide practical instruction to our students and maintain the curriculum growing areas and resources. Glasshouse experience would be an advantage.
As a Technical Instructor you will be demonstrating and providing practical instruction in varying aspects of horticultural practice to a range of students aged 14 years and above both in a grounds and classroom settings. You will also assist in the horticultural and technical maintenance of the practical facilities. You will have experience and training in a range of horticultural operations and use of machinery, and a full UK driver’s licence is required as the role may involve travelling between our campuses at Hadlow, Canterbury, Greenwich and Mottingham. There may also be a requirement for occasional weekend working.
You will need to be self-motivated and able to work independently. The ability to communicate effectively is an essential pre-requisite for this role, as is a qualification to Level 3/National Diploma standard in Horticulture or a closely related subject, and relevant practical experience.
In addition to the minimum requirements detailed above, candidates will need a keen interest in a wide range of horticultural related subjects, the ability to work well as part of a team and the willingness to work towards and gain a relevant teaching qualification, which can be studied at the college. Further training towards other qualification will also be encouraged and supported by the College.
As well as a contributory pension scheme, health cash plan and free car parking, this post also attracts 25 days holiday each year, plus bank holidays and 3 additional statutory days leave.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) and to provide proof of their right to work in the UK. Where applicable, a prohibition check will be carried out.
